Salvatore J. Licata; Helped Found Gay Academic Union
Salvatore J. Licata, 50, a co-founder of the National Lesbian and Gay Academic Union and author of “Historical Perspectives on Homosexuality.” He also was an associate editor of the Journal of Homosexuality and was formerly on the faculty of Cal State San Francisco. He was credited with starting the first gay studies program at state universities. He was a graduate of USC. Donations in Licata’s name are asked to the Summers-Licata House for homeless teen-agers, 8235 Santa Monica Blvd., Suite 214, West Hollywood 90046. David Summers, who died earlier, was Licata’s longtime companion. In New York City, where he had been working with the city Department of Health, on Jan. 2 of an AIDS-related illness.
