HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Poway Girls Beat Vista, Stay Perfect in League
Dawn Gigstad led a balanced attack with 10 points as Poway improved to 4-0 in the Palomar League with a 60-37 girls’ basketball victory over Vista Thursday at Poway.
The Titans (12-1) also had four players with eight points apiece. Shannon Ryan had seven rebounds.
Vista fell to 9-5 overall.
In another Palomar League game:
Rancho Buena Vista 55, Orange Glen 33--Rancho Buena Vista (11-4, 4-0) started quickly, scoring 24 points in first quarter to Orange Glen’s seven, and cruised from there. Dottie Fenney led the way with 14 points for RBV. Point guard Stephanie Howells added 15 assists and four points.
Avocado League
San Marcos 42, El Camino 28--San Marcos improved to 7-8 and 2-1 with the victory.
San Marcos outscored El Camino, 15-5, in the second quarter and went in at halftime with an 11-point lead, 28-17. Tammy Hinrichs led San Marcos with 17 points. Heather Basset scored 19 for El Camino.
Metro Conference
Chula Vista 50, Mar Vista 31--Liz Jarque scored 16 and teammate Lillian Cafas added 11 to lead Chula Vista (5-9, 2-3). Mar Vista’s Tera Gigax was high scorer with 17.
Bonita Vista 58, Hilltop 33--Bonita Vista improved to 10-4 and 4-2. Torril Purvis led the way with 10 assists, 14 points and seven rebounds. Teammate Malena Casteno was the high scorer with 16 points.
Fallbrook 54, San Dieguito 33--Fallbrook led after the first half, 23-7. Andrea Strategos and Marcia Jeffries each scored 10 for the Warriors. Strategos also pulled down 11 rebounds.
