Deputy Supt. Elisa L. Sanchez has been named acting superintendent of the Compton Unified School District now that former Supt. Ted D. Kimbrough has left to assume his new duties as head of the Chicago school system.

The district’s Board of Education is conducting a nationwide search for a new superintendent.

Administrators already working in the district who want to apply for the post of superintendent will also be considered for the job, said board member Kelvin D. Filer. The board, he said, has been soliciting written suggestions from various groups and individuals in the community about what sort of person should head the schools.

She received a master’s degree in education from San Diego State and holds California school credentials in administrative services, pupil personnel services, supervision and general secondary education.
