SHORT TAKES : ‘Lambada’ Steams to the Screen
First there came the dance. Now the movie.
Sawmill Entertainment is shooting “Lambada! The Forbidden Dance,” a film that features the steamy body-to-body dance craze that makes Dirty Dancing seem spotless.
The plot takes as many twists as the dance: A beautiful Brazilian girl is determined to save the rain forests of her native land from destruction by the ruthless forces of a multinational corporation. She is sent to America by her father, the king of an Amazon Indian tribe, in a daring effort to preserve her village and the sacred forests. In the process, the young woman introduces “Lambada! the Forbidden Dance” to her new-found American friends.
The movie, starring former Miss USA Laura Herring, Jeff James and Richard Lynch, will be distributed by 21st Century Film Corp. It will premiere at the 1990 Cannes Film Festival.
