WORLD IN BRIEF : SOUTH AFRICA : Ban on Opposition Reassessed

South Africa is reassessing bans and restrictions on the African National Congress and other militant opposition groups under the 3 1/2-year-old state of emergency, Justice Minister Kobie Coetsee said. His statement followed the announcement by the United Democratic Front, an anti-apartheid coalition, that it will defy a government prohibition and resume open operations.
