BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Rested Alemany Defeats Louisville
Who says that practice makes perfect?
The Alemany High girls’ basketball team, so plagued by illness that it had not practiced for seven days, took the court well-rested Thursday night and routed Louisville, 70-43, in a San Fernando Valley League game at Alemany.
Four Indians scored in double figures, led by Rachel Corelli with 16 points off the bench. Tori McCormick had 12 points to go along with nine rebounds and five steals.
Qina Shigamatsu added 14 points and Petra Rios scored 10 for Alemany (12-6 overall, 4-0 in league play).
In other girls’ games:
Thousand Oaks 62, Newbury Park 46--Michelle Palmisano, who has been suffering from the flu, scored 22 of her 31 points in the second half to lead Thousand Oaks to its second Marmonte League victory in a row at Newbury Park.
Palmisano has scored 30 or more points in her past four games.
Notre Dame 47, St. Genevieve 41--Kim Fischer (14 points), Luisa Parra (11) and Julie Nelson (11) scored in double figures for Notre Dame (6-8, 3-1).
Campbell Hall 53, Buckley 9--Campbell Hall outscored Buckley, 18-0, in the second quarter to run away with the Delphic League game at Campbell Hall.
Joanna Paul scored a game-high 17 points for Campbell Hall (7-7, 2-3) and Kyrsten Williams added 10 points and 14 rebounds.
Village Christian 40, Maranatha 25--Forward Jana Kovar had 12 points and 21 rebounds to lead Village Christian (10-4, 6-0) in an Alpha League game at Maranatha.
L. A. Baptist 48, Western Christian 32--L. A. Baptist outscored Western Christian, 17-0, in the final quarter to win the Alpha League game at Western Christian.
Forwards Karleen Cox and Kristin Heerema scored 18 and 16 points, respectively, to lead L. A. Baptist (7-4, 4-2).
Bell-Jeff 74, Chaminade 40--Point guard Judy Daza scored a game-high 17 points and added six assists to lead Bell-Jeff in a San Fernando Valley League game at Bell-Jeff.
Lori Leon had 11 points and 10 rebounds and Ingrid Ochoa had 13 points and 14 rebounds for Bell-Jeff (11-7, 3-1).
Oak Park 63, Bishop Diego 46--Marcy Reed scored 25 points and teammate Kelli Romney had 16 points and 18 rebounds for Oak Park in a Tri-Valley League game at Oak Park.
BOYS
Highland Hall 52, Oak Hill 48--Robert Ramirez scored a game-high 21 points and teammate John Klejnot added 20 to lead Highland Hall (12-2, 6-0) in a Westside League game at home.
Glendale Academy 91, Pilibos 75--Forward Chris Lindstadt scored a career-high 31 points to lead Glendale Academy (7-3) in a nonleague game at home.
