Friends of Slain Teen to Hold Carwash Benefit
Friends of a Venice High School student killed in a drive-by shooting across the street from the school organized a fund-raising carwash in his memory as police arrested a gang member in connection with the slaying.
Alfredo Correa Mayorga, 18, is being held in jail after his arrest on suspicion of murder late Thursday night, Los Angeles police said.
Sophomore Oscar Hinojosa, whom police describe as a rival gang member, and a friend were leaving school and walking on Walgrove Avenue at 3:30 p.m. Thursday when shots were fired from a passing car. Hinojosa, hit in the chest, died about two hours later.
Friends dispute police claims that Hinojosa was a gang member.
