NATION IN BRIEF : ILLINOIS : Expelled Wife Will Take Classes by Mail

Elizabeth Valeri, 17, who was expelled from a Roman Catholic high school in Chicago for getting married, will be allowed to finish her school requirements by correspondence courses, a statement released by the student and Maria High School said. Elizabeth was kicked out when she and her husband were pictured in a newspaper as the first couple to marry in Cook County ion 1990. The school had said that Elizabeth’s marriage outside the church and before graduation does not set a good example for other students.
