Monterey Park : Review of Contract Bidding
A debate over mounting legal costs has prompted the City Council to review contract bidding procedures for all professional and material services.
At Councilman Barry Hatch’s suggestion Monday night, the council ordered a report on the feasibility of periodic bidding of city contracts. Among the contracts to be examined is one for legal services from the law firm of Brown, Winfield & Canzoneri, which the city paid $707,891 in fiscal 1988-89.
Last November, Hatch proposed that the contract for legal services be put out for bids. But after a closed meeting Nov. 27, the council decided to continue using the Brown firm.
