From Times Staff and Wire Reports

An Air Force Delta 2 rocket successfully boosted a Navstar satellite into orbit, the sixth of 21 radio navigation beacons that will allow troops around the world to pinpoint their locations to within 53 feet. The 126-foot, $30-million Delta 2 thundered to life at 2:55 p.m. PST and majestically vaulted away from launch complex 17 at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. About 25 minutes after liftoff, the 3,675-pound solar-powered Navstar satellite was successfully pushed away from the Delta’s second stage into its preliminary egg-shaped orbit.
