PACIFIC COAST LEAGUE ROUNDUP : Laguna Beach Weathers Rally to Hold Off Woodbridge, 54-48
Senior guard John Trevino scored 24 points to lead Laguna Beach High School to a 54-48 Pacific Coast League victory over Woodbridge Wednesday night at Laguna Beach.
Dain Blanton added 10 points and had eight rebounds for the Artists (15-4, 4-1), who took sole possession of second place ahead of Woodbridge (11-9, 3-2).
Laguna Beach led by nine points early in the fourth quarter, but Woodbridge cut the lead to 50-48 on a layin by Ryan Rauch with 53 seconds remaining.
Blanton made one of two free throws with 19 seconds remaining to give Laguna Beach a 51-48 lead. Woodbridge’s Tim Kingsbury missed a three-point attempt with 16 seconds left.
Rauch scored 21 points to lead Woodbridge.
In other league games:
Trabuco Hills 83, Costa Mesa 44--Trabuco Hills point guard Beau Hossler had nine points, eight assists and 12 rebounds. Junior center Ron Christ had 16 points and 10 rebounds for the host Mustangs (11-8, 5-0). Costa Mesa fell to 2-14, 0-5.
Orange 72, Laguna Hills 60--Guard Carlos Duran scored 19 points and had 10 assists and seven rebounds for host Orange (8-10, 2-3) and Thu Huynh added 17 points. Al Saldana scored 21 points and Brian Matsen had 18 for Laguna Hills (1-4, 5-11).
