Musicians to Play On: The American Federation of Musicians and the recording industry reached a tentative agreement Friday evening that will save two special funds which the industry sought to eliminate: The Music Performance Trust Funds and the Phonograph Manufacturers Special Payments Fund. Musicians also gained a 9% percent wage increase over three years and a small health-care raise but did not win compensation for CD re-issues. The new contract now goes to the union’s 185,000 North American members for ratification by mail.
