Bishop’s Girl Sets Soccer Scoring Mark
Sophomore striker Carmel Murphy of Bishop’s School has set a girls’ section soccer record for goals in a season with 55.
Murphy scored two goals Wednesday in Bishop’s 4-1 City Central League victory over Madison and two more Thursday in a 6-1 victory over Crawford. The previous record was 51, set by Laurie Tharp of Mission Bay in 1985.
“(Murphy’s) fiercely competitive and just hates to lose,” said Ren Marquette, Bishop’s athletic director. “She’s fast and has great skills.”
Bishops (18-0-2) was ranked seventh in the most recent section coaches’ rankings.
