39 Sign Up for Area Races for Legislature : Politics: Republican Senate candidate Frank Hill also qualified to run for the Assembly seat he actually plans to vacate.
At least 39 candidates from San Gabriel Valley area districts have qualified for the June 5 ballot in state legislative primaries, including seven contenders for state Senate seats and 32 for Assembly seats.
In one state Senate seat and two Assembly seats, the filing deadline has been extended to Tuesday, because incumbents have elected not to run for reelection. State law requires a five-day extension in those cases.
State Sen. Joseph B. Montoya (D-Whittier), who resigned last week after being convicted of racketeering, extortion and money-laundering, will not run in the 26th Senate District. Assemblymen Charles M. Calderon (D-Whittier) and Charles Bader (R-Pomona) have decided to run for Senate seats.
The candidates who have qualified for nomination in Los Angeles County include:
24th Senate District (South Pasadena, East Los Angeles and parts of Los Angeles): Art Torres, incumbent, Democrat; Don E. Carney, Keith B. Marsh, Republicans; David L. Wilson, Libertarian.
26th Senate District (Industry, Irwindale, Monterey Park, Pico Rivera, San Gabriel): Charles M. Calderon, Democrat.
34th Senate District (Pomona and parts of San Bernardino County): Ruben S. Ayala, incumbent, Democrat; Charles Bader, Republican.
41st Assembly District (Altadena, La Canada, Glendale and parts of Los Angeles): Jonathan S. Fuhrman, Jeanette W. Mann, Rod C. McKenzie, Democrats; Pat Nolan, incumbent, Republican; Curtis S. Helms, Libertarian; David Velasquez, Peace and Freedom.
42nd Assembly District (Azusa, San Marino, Sierra Madre, South Pasadena, Temple City): Evelyn Fierro, Democrat; Richard L. Mountjoy, incumbent, Republican; Scott Fritschler, Libertarian.

Horcher, Kenneth R. Manning, Phil Mautino, Tony Russo, Wayne Grisham, Republicans. (Hill, who won last week’s Republican primary in a special election for William Campbell’s vacated Senate seat, says he mistakenly had registered to run for his Assembly seat as well.)
55th Assembly District (Pasadena and parts of Los Angeles): Richard Polanco, incumbent, Democrat, and Dale S. Olvera, Libertarian.
59th Assembly District (Alhambra, Montebello, Monterey Park, Pico Rivera, South El Monte): G. Monty Manibog, Larry Salazar, Bill Edward Hernandez, Diane Martinez, Democrats; Steven Kipp, Leland Lieberg, Republicans.

62nd Assembly District (Covina, Claremont, Glendora and parts of San Bernardino County): William H. Lancaster, incumbent, Republican, and Selma D. Calnan, Democrat.
In addition, in the 16th Senate District, covering a part of Pasadena, Carl Bryan, Ray Gonzalez and Robert Spencer, Democrats, and Republican incumbent Don Rogers, qualified in Kern County.
In the 65th Assembly District, covering part of Pomona, Robert Erwin, Democrat, and James L. Brulte, Republican, qualified in San Bernardino County.
