Jail Escapee Arrested in Another County : COUNTYWIDE
A County Jail prisoner who escaped Friday allegedly by stealing a county-owned car has been arrested in San Bernardino County, sheriff’s deputies said Sunday.
David Edward Osborne, 20, of Buena Park was booked on charges of escape and grand theft auto at San Bernardino County Jail on Saturday. The county vehicle he reportedly stole also was recovered.
Deputies said Osborne, who was set to be released Feb. 27, took the tan 1988 Pontiac Bonneville four-door from a Sheriff’s Department garage at 550 N. Flower St., where he was assigned to wash and park vehicles.
“Apparently he decided he didn’t want to park cars and just took off,” said Lt. Robert Rivas of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. “It was his first day on the job.”
Deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department spotted the stolen vehicle after authorities in Orange County put out a bulletin to law enforcement agencies describing the suspect and car.
