COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Rancho Santiago Hits Four Home Runs in a 20-3 Victory
Sophomore Marty Neff and freshman Jeff White each hit two home runs as Rancho Santiago College pounded Southwestern, 20-3, in a nonconference baseball game Tuesday at Rancho Santiago.
White opened the fifth inning with a home run, Neff later hit a grand slam and White capped the nine-run inning with a two-run homer. Neff, who had six RBIs, has eight home runs this season. White had three runs batted in Tuesday.
Sophomore Conrad Colby had six RBIs and four of the 16 hits for Rancho Santiago (9-2). Jerry Aschoff (2-0) pitched the first five innings for the victory.
In other nonconference games:
Fullerton 12, College of the Canyons 10--Host Fullerton had 15 hits. Willie Speakman had three hits and three RBIs, Dave Weckerle had four hits and an RBI and Gary Mota had two hits and an RBI for Fullerton. Fullerton was behind, 6-2, but scored seven runs in the fifth inning and didn’t trail again.
Jim Burchit (1-0), who pitched two innings, struck out four for the victory. Canyons had only six hits but took advantage of eight walks, three batters hit by pitch and five Fullerton errors to stay close.
Golden West 12, Palomar 7--Josh Bammer had three hits, including a double and four RBIs, Gary Christopherson had three hits and two RBIs and Steve McKowen had two hits, four runs scored and two stolen bases for Golden West (7-1).
Oxnard 7, Saddleback 6 (8 innings, darkness)--Oxnard scored three runs in the eighth. Buster Nietzke had two hits, including a two-run double, and Ted Savage hit a solo home run for Saddleback (5-3). Losing pitcher Corey Giuliano (2-1) went two innings. Oxnard is 4-4.
In the Cypress Orange Coast tournament:
Orange Coast 8, San Bernardino Valley 1--Mark Dodd and Mike Burns each had RBI doubles and Corey Parker had an RBI single to lead host Orange Coast (6-5).
In nonconference softball:
Palomar 3, Cypress 0--Cami Allen pitched a four-hitter, including nine strikeouts, for Palomar (8-1) at Cypress (5-1). Losing pitcher Laura Corson went six-plus innings.
In South Coast Conference men’s volleyball:
Orange Coast 3, Golden West 0--Matt Lyles had 18 kills, Al Vistaunet had 12 and Travis Turner had 49 assists as host Orange Coast (4-0) won 15-11, 15-7, 15-8.
