COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Miller Sparks Titan Women Past UC Irvine

Genia Miller had 37 points and 13 rebounds to lead Cal State Fullerton to a 65-43 victory over host UC Irvine in a Big West Conference women’s basketball game Saturday.

Jill Matyuch scored 18 points for Fullerton (12-13 and 7-9 in conference).

Irvine (1-25, 0-17) was led by Yvonne Catala, who had 13 points.

In California Collegiate Athletic Assn. women’s basketball:

Cal Poly Pomona 65, Chapman 55--Cal Poly, the second-ranked team in the nation, finished its fifth undefeated CCAA season. The Broncos (23-3, 12-0), who have won or shared all nine CCAA titles, were led by Niki Bracken, who had 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Julie King scored 22 points for Chapman (18-9, 6-6), which finished in fourth place.

In nonconference baseball:

Cal State Fullerton 10, U.S. International 5--Fullerton’s Phil Nevin had three hits, including two solo home runs, and Steve Sisco had two hits, a triple and three runs batted in.

UC Irvine 15, Cal Lutheran 4--Host UC Irvine (8-6) scored three runs in the first inning and five in the second inning to take an 8-1 lead.

In California Collegiate Athletic Assn. baseball:

UC Riverside 9, Chapman 3--Jody Garcia homered in the eighth inning, his third of the season, for Chapman (8-6, 1-1).

In Golden State Athletic Conference men’s basketball:

Fresno Pacific 90, Christ College Irvine 78--Donnie Johnson scored 25 points to lead Fresno Pacific (20-7, 9-3) at Irvine. Johnson made five of seven three-point field goals. Tony Brown scored 18 points and Mark Howard 17 for Fresno. Aaron Clasen had 25 points for Irvine (11-20, 3-9).

In the California Coastal Conference tournament championship:

Pacific Christian College 105, San Jose Christian College 80--Pacific Christian (26-9) broke the game open in the early minutes and was never challenged as it won its second consecutive state championship. San Jose Christian finished the season 17-8. Pacific Christian goes on to the National Christian College Athletic Assn. championships in Baton Rouge, La.
