PHILADELPHIA — Pete Sampras, 18, scored his first pro tournament victory, mixing well-placed serves and accurate volleys to beat Andres Gomez 7-6, 7-5, 6-2, Sunday for the U.S. Pro Indoor championship.
Sampras, seeded 13th, beat Milan Srejber, third-seeded Andre Agassi, fifth-seeded Tim Mayotte and qualifier Mark Kratzmann to reach the final.
The tournament began with five of the world’s top 10 players in the ATP computer rankings, but none survived the quarterfinals. Top-seeded John McEnroe lost in the second round.
