Golden West to Play Merritt on Thursday
Golden West College will play Merritt in the quarterfinals of the women’s community college basketball state championships, which start Thursday at the College of the Sequoias in Visalia.
This is the fourth consecutive season in which Golden West (34-1) has reached the final eight. Golden West, the top-seeded team from Southern California, is averaging 94 points a game and has scored 100 or more points in its last six games. The Rustlers have scored 100 or more points 13 times this season.
In Thursday’s quarterfinals: DeAnza (29-5) plays Los Angeles Valley (29-5) at 2 p.m.; Golden West plays Merritt (25-7) at 4 p.m.; College of San Mateo (31-4) plays Cerritos (25-7) at 6 p.m., and College of the Sequoias (32-3) plays College of the Canyons (25-7) at 8 p.m.
