GIRLS’ BASKETBALL DIVISION II SEMIFINALS
In the other Division II semifinal:
Point Loma 53, Castle Park 42--Point Loma and star Tyeast Brown started slowly--the Pointers trailed Castle Park by three points (15-12) after a quarter and Brown had scored just six points.
Brown stayed cold, but the rest of the Pointers began to find the range in the second quarter, outscoring Castle Park, 17-6, to take an eight-point halftime lead.
When Brown finally began to heat up, Castle Park was doomed.
The Pointers are now a victory away from their second consecutive section title and sixth in the past seven years.
Brown scored 15 second-half points and finished with 24 and six rebounds. She and Ericka Crittendon held Castle Park’s leading scorer, Christina Murguia, to 12 points. Erica Ockert led Castle Park with 16 points.
