CITY BOYS, GIRLS : Crenshaw Playing for Another Title
Crenshaw High School, the defending State and City champion, will be seeking its third consecutive City boys’ basketball title when it meets Manual Arts for the 4-A Division title tonight at 8:30 in the last of four City finals at the Sports Arena.
Crenshaw (22-4) has defeated the Toilers in City finals the last two seasons and has won five consecutive title-game appearances, with its last loss in 1983 against Wilmington Banning. In the semifinals a week ago, the Cougars beat Reseda Cleveland, 91-90, in overtime as junior guard Kevin Ollie scored 33 points.
In reaching the final, top-seeded Manual Arts (24-3) has beaten San Pedro, Washington and Dorsey.
In the 3-A final, Fremont (29-2) plays North Hollywood (23-3) at 6:30 p.m. Last year, Fremont beat Los Angeles, 65-48, in the final.
In girls’ finals, Washington (26-3) takes on Van Nuys (22-3) at 4:30 p.m. for the 4-A title, after defending champion Marshall (23-3) faces University (17-3) at 2:30 p.m. for the 3-A title.
In the 4-A semifinals, Washington defeated Carson, 73-34, with Detra Lockhart scoring 22 points, and Van Nuys beat Harbor City Narbonne, 60-43, with Stacie Toon scoring 26 points and grabbing 17 rebounds.
In the 3-A semifinals, Marshall defeated Roosevelt, 47-45, and University beat Huntington Park, 56-49.
