SOUTHERN SECTION GIRLS : Leslie, Morningside Play for 5-AA Title
Prep All-American center Lisa Leslie, who scored 101 points in one half last month, leads top-seeded Inglewood Morningside High School against No. 2 Lynwood in the Southern Section 5-AA Division girls’ basketball title game at 8:30 tonight in the second game of a doubleheader at UC Irvine’s Bren Center.
Morningside (27-3), the two-time major-division defending champion, beat Chino, 75-48, in the semifinals last Saturday as Leslie scored 30 points.
Lynwood (25-1) defeated Fontana, 59-41, in its semifinal game, with Linda Watson scoring 21 points.
In the first game of the doubleheader, undefeated Ventura Buena (26-0) will play Newhall Hart (24-4) for the 5-A Division title at 6:45 p.m.
In the 4-AA final, Pasadena Muir (25-5) goes for its first Southern Section title when it meets Ventura (19-9) at 8:30 tonight at Cal Poly Pomona. West Torrance (22-5) and Westminster La Quinta (26-3) meet for the 4-A title in the first game at 6:45 p.m.
In other Southern Section girls’ championship games tonight at 7:30, Santa Ynez (21-3) will play Morro Bay (19-5) in the 2-AA Division at Lompoc Cabrillo High School; Rosamond (17-7) meets San Luis Obispo Mission Prep (17-4) for the 1-A title at San Luis Obispo High; Arcadia Rio Hondo Prep (20-4) plays Lone Pine (22-5) in the Small Schools Division at Azusa Pacific.
