N. Hollywood Woman Dies in Head-On Crash
A 58-year-old North Hollywood woman died Friday after her car drifted into oncoming traffic and collided with a pickup truck near Val Verde in the Santa Clarita Valley, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The victim’s name was not released pending notification of her family. The driver of the pickup truck, Mike Schmidt, 28, of Northridge, suffered only minor injuries in the 12:15 p.m. accident on California 126.
The accident, west of the Golden State Freeway and near Chiquito Canyon Road, backed up both eastbound and westbound traffic on the two-lane highway for more than an hour, said Officer Steve Munday.
Munday said the woman was driving west on 126 when her car went into the eastbound lane.
Both drivers were taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia, where the woman died about an hour later. Schmidt was treated and released.
