Kunishima, Hollahan to Take Part in U. S. Swimming Senior Nationals
John Kunishima and Ted Hollahan of Cal State Northridge will compete in the U. S. Swimming Senior Nationals from March 20-23 at the Centennial Sportsplex in Nashville, Tenn.
The U. S. team for the Goodwill Games in Seattle in August will be selected based on times from the Senior Nationals and the NCAA Division I meet.
Kunishima was selected most valuable male swimmer at the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships in Buffalo, N. Y., last week. He won the 200-yard individual medley (in a college-division-record 1 minute 49.81 seconds) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:37.78) and placed second in the 100-yard backstroke (51.37) and 100-yard freestyle (44.25).
The sophomore from Hacienda Heights might participate in the same events in the Senior Nationals, although Kunishima could opt for the 50-yard freestyle instead of the 200 individual medley.
Hollahan is scheduled to swim all three freestyle events in Nashville. The senior from Denver placed fifth in the 50 freestyle (20.87), third in the 100 freestyle (44.55) and second in the 200 freestyle (1:38.20) last week.
