SIDELINES : Italy’s Ghedina Wins Downhill

ARE, Sweden — Christian Ghedina of Italy won a World Cup downhill today and Austrian Helmut Hoeflehner clinched the season title in that discipline by placing third.
Ghedina clocked 1 minute, 16.41 seconds down the Olympia track that was shortened because of strong winds at the top.
No American finished in the points. Bill Hudson of Squaw Valley, Calif., was 25th, 2.01 seconds behind Ghedina; A. J. Kitt of Rochester, N.Y., was 29th, 2.27 behind, and Tommy Moe of Palmer, Alaska, tied for 36th, 2.60 behind.
