Northridge Clinches Volleyball Playoff Berth
The Cal State Northridge men’s team clinched its first Western Intercollegiate Volleyball Assn. playoff berth with a 15-10, 15-4, 15-12 win over Brigham Young on Wednesday night in Provo, Utah.
The win ended a frustrating period for the Matadors, who had needed to win just one of their final six WIVA matches to secure the berth. But Northridge dropped four consecutive matches, including a straight-game loss to UC Santa Barbara a week ago, entering two season-ending matches against BYU. The Matadors conclude their regular season Friday night.
Behind Rafael Tulino’s 17 kills and Mark Root’s 16, the Matadors accomplished the mission. Coley Kyman also had 12 kills for Northridge.
The win boosted Northridge to 12-10 overall, 7-8 in conference play, and clinched second place in the WIVA.
The Matadors with will meet the third-place team from the Harry Wilson Division in first-round playoff action April 25 at Northridge.
