Things to Do and See Near Salish Lodge

Rooms range from $165 for a river view and $150 for a courtyard view on weekends, to $159 for a midweek package that includes one night plus breakfast, Sunday through Thursday. Breakfast is about $40 for two. Dinner is about $80 for two, without wine. All major credit cards accepted. The concierge will help arrange fishing on nearby rivers, and golfing at several nearby courses.

The Mar T Cafe: 137 North Bend Way, (206) 888-1221, about three miles from the Salish. Home of some of the cherry pie ($1.75 per slice) gobbled in “Twin Peaks,” Rumors have it the doughnuts are delicious, as well.

The Herb Farm: 32804 Issaquah-Fall City Road, Fall City, Wash. 98024; (206) 222-7103 or (206) 784-2222, about ten minutes from the Salish. With more than 100 varieties of herbs for sale, this quaint farm also offers a full schedule of activities from llama rides to harvest festivals and a charming restaurant that serves a six-course lunch Friday through Sunday from May through Christmas. Open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekends through October. Lunch for two is $60 without wine.

The Brown Bag Restaurant and Bakery: 4366 Tolt Avenue, Carnation, Wash. 98014. (206) 333-6100. Cinnamon rolls $1.15 each. Open Tuesday through Saturday 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Open Sunday for brunch from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dinner Thursday through Saturday 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The Tolt River-John McDonald Memorial County Park: Fall City Road at NE 40th, about five minutes from Carnation.

Skiing: In the winter there is downhill and cross-country skiing at Alpental, Ski Acres and Snoqualmie, all about 30 minutes from the Salish. For information call (206) 236-1600.

Puget Sound and Snoqualmie Valley Railroad: In downtown Snoqualmie, an historic steam train that departs from the lovely restored Snoqualmie Depot, circa 1890, and runs through the woods to Snoqualmie Falls and a breathtaking view.

The trip takes about 30 minutes. The train returns to the depot then continues on to the town of North Bend and back, another 30-minute ride. It makes four trips each weekend day from April through October. Tickets are $6 for adults, $5 for senior citizens, $3 for children 3 to 12 and free for children under 3 years of age.

Golfing: Mt. Si Golf Course is an 18-hole course on rolling terrain in the shadow of Mt. Si. Greens fees are $14 on weekends and $12 weekdays.

Wineries: Snoqualmie Winery, 1000 Winery Road, (206) 888-4000. Snoqualmie wines aren’t really made at this cinderblock installation but they are aged here. It’s a wonderful picnic or impromptu wine tasting spot with a wide view into the Cascades. Open daily 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Two of Washington state’s best known and most impressive wineries, Columbia Winery and Chateau Ste. Michelle, are located across from each other on N.E. 145th in Woodinville. Both are open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
