Launch Capsizes in Mozambique; 31 Dead
United Press International
MAPUTO, Mozambique — An overloaded motor launch carrying Mozambicans home from a visit to a witch doctor capsized in northern Pemba bay, killing at least 31 people, it was reported Monday.
It was the worst maritime accident in the bay since Mozambican independence in 1975.
The newspaper Noticias reported that 30 people survived the accident Saturday but quoted officials as saying it was impossible to determine how many others could be missing because no passenger manifest was kept.
