Israelis Protest Plan for VOA Transmitter
Reuters
TEL AVIV — Dozens of Israelis protested Wednesday outside the U.S. Embassy against a huge Voice of America transmission station planned near their homes in the southern Negev desert.
“VOA, go away!” protesters chanted. They held banners that read, “Who will save my house?”
Israeli environmentalists say the the proposed station would harm millions of migrating birds that pass through the area and would also spoil the desert landscape.
The national council for planning and building is to decide June 19 whether to approve construction of the station.
