Desormeaux Recovering, Plans to Resume Racing on Friday
Jockey Kent Desormeaux, involved in a fourth-race spill Sunday at Hollywood Park, is scheduled to resume riding Friday, according to agent Gene Short.
“I have only named him on a few (horses), as I don’t want him riding more than four on his first day back,” Short said.
In a spill that involved fellow rider Chris McCarron, Desormeaux’ mount, J. Nic’s Desire, broke down and fell while McCarron and his mount, Full Design, were unable to avoid the fallen horse.
“The doctor said there was a tiny mark on one of Kent’s ribs, but it really wasn’t bad enough to tape up,” said Short. “It’s just a matter of being bruised up, and for now he’s carrying around a couple of those five-gallon water bottles and climbing the stairs to stay fit.”
McCarron, who had been scheduled to ride Sunday Silence in the $300,000 Californian later Sunday afternoon, was not as fortunate as Desormeaux. The Hall of Fame rider is expected to be sidelined for three to four months with two broken legs and a fractured right forearm. (McCarron copes with recovery, Section C, Page 1.)
