North Stops South in All-Star Baseball
Despite four home runs in the fifth inning, the South lost to the North, 8-7, in the California state all-star baseball game Friday at San Jose Municipal Stadium.
Jim Betzsold of Mater Dei singled to start the fifth, and after a walk, James Eidam of Edison hit a three-run home run to tie it, 3-3.
Lionel Hastings of Mater Dei, Darvin Taylor of Riverside Poly and Lance Marks of Dana Hills hit solo home runs in the inning and the South took a 6-3 lead.
The South led, 7-6, in the ninth, but the North rallied for two runs with the help of two errors.
Kevin Lovingier of Laguna Hills pitched the first three innings for the South, allowing three runs and striking out five.
