MUNICH — Screen legend Marlene Dietrich has sued a West German politician who used the actress’s photograph on a poster opposing German unification, Dietrich’s lawyer said Wednesday.
Uwe Sachse told reporters that Dietrich is suing Jutta Ditfurth of the environmentalist Greens party, for “misuse of picture and name.”
He said the 88-year-old actress, who lives in Paris, was taking the action over what she said was unlawful use of her image on a political poster expressing views with which the actress did not agree.
The poster bore Dietrich’s image saying, “Germany? Never Again.”
The quote dates back to pre-World War II years, when Dietrich, then living in Hollywood, publicly expressed her opposition to Adolf Hitler and the Third Reich.
