‘Candy Man’ Copyright: DCC Compact Classics Inc. of Northridge filed a copyright infringement suit claiming illegal use of a digitally remixed recording of the late Sammy Davis Jr.’s hit song, “The Candy Man.” The U.S. District Court case, filed in Los Angeles, claimed that Curb Records and Cema Distribution Co., both of Burbank, used the copyrighted work on a compact disc, “Sammy Davis Jr./Greatest Hits.” DCC said it is the exclusive licensee and asked for damages of more than $5 million. A June 25 hearing was set to decide whether DCC will get a preliminary order barring Curb and Cema from making or selling copies of the recording. (Filed June 13, 1990. Case No. 90-3048)
