THE SIDELINES : Rolando Roomes Goes to Expos
CINCINNATI — Cincinnati Reds outfielder Rolando Roomes was put on waivers and claimed today by the Montreal Expos.
The Reds waived Roomes to open a roster spot for Hal Morris, who was called up today from Class AAA Nashville. Morris, a first baseman and outfielder, is expected to join the team in Atlanta for a double-header Tuesday.
The Reds have been disappointed with Roomes, who appeared in just 30 games--nine of them as a pinch-hitter. He batted .213 with two homers and seven runs batted in and struck out 20 times in 61 at-bats. His major shortcoming was his high strikeout rate.
