U.S. Jockey Councilor Fractures Her Skull
MEDICINE HAT, Alberta — American Laura Councilor, a first-year jockey, was in serious but stable condition today at Calgary Foothills Hospital where she was flown after an accident at the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede Grounds.
The 23-year-old rider from Phoenix suffered a fractured skull Sunday when she was thrown from her mount, Arms Walk Out, and kicked in the head by another horse as it tried to jump over her.
“They said that her skull is fractured in two places, one on each side,” said Councilor’s husband, Don. “It could have been a lot worse, that’s for sure. She can move her arms and legs.”
