LAGUNA HILLS : State’s Decathlon Champs Tour Capital
Lunch at the Capitol Athletic Club, honors from the state Legislature and a tour of the capital were among fast-paced activities Monday for the Laguna Hills High School Academic Decathlon team.
As the state’s top Academic Decathlon team, and the second best team in the nation, members, their coaches, their principal and a school board member enjoyed a whirlwind tour of Sacramento.
Although the group had tenative plans to meet with Gov. George Deukmejian, “he was tied up with the budget and unable to see us,” said Jeff McCombs, the 18-year-old team captain.
The trip to the capital for the nine young men was part of the winning team’s prize, and included a full day of meetings, honors and tours.
The team lunched with state senators and members of the Assembly and was honored by the state legislative bodies in separate ceremonies.
