Public Broadcasting Awards: KCET Channel 28 and KPBS Channel 15 in San Diego were among 11 public stations honored by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting at its 1990 Public Television Local Program Awards on Wednesday. Producer Arthur Barron won a gold award for public service programming for KCET’s “Los Angeles History Project: Ode to Central Avenue.” Claudia Bryant won a gold award for public/current affairs programming for KCET’s “In the Year 2000: In Poor Health.” The California Young Playwrights Project of San Diego State University won the gold award for children’s programming for KPBS’ “Young Playwrights: Simply Maria, or the American Dream.” Producer-director Rob Frutchman was given a silver award for performance programming for KCET’s “ISO Dance Theater.”
