Boy Hurt in Shooting Near 2 High Schools
A 16-year-old boy was injured in a gang-related shooting in Woodland Hills when another youth fired at a group of students waiting for classes to start at nearby high schools Wednesday, Los Angeles police said.
The victim was struck in the shoulder by a bullet during the 7:50 a.m. shooting at Delarosa Street and Dubois Avenue, about a block from El Camino Real High School and Miguel Leonis High School, a continuation school. The boy’s name was not released by police because he is a minor.
The wounded youth, who is bused to school from the downtown Los Angeles area, was treated at Humana Hospital-West Hills. He was later transferred to White Memorial Medical Center in Los Angeles, where he was in stable condition, police said.
Sgt. Bill Martin said the shooting was believed to be gang-related. The victim and seven other teen-agers were standing at the corner before classes when a car drove up and the youths exchanged taunts.
A teen-ager then got out of the car and opened fire on those waiting at the corner. Only one person was injured. The youth with the gun jumped back in the car and it sped away. No arrests had been made late Wednesday.
