100 Volleyball Teams Vie in Junior Event
Several Orange County boys’ volleyball teams will be among the 100 teams competing this weekend in a junior tournament.
The double-elimination tournament starts Saturday at several sites. Three age groups will compete--18 and under, 16 and under and 14 and under.
The tournament will include local entrants Laguna Beach, El Toro Volleyball Club, South Coast YMCA, Balboa Bay Club, Crown Valley and Rip It Up. The finals are scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday at Cal State Dominguez Hills.
Rip It Up’s 18-and-under team includes Edison High School’s Karl Van Reusen, Aaron Boone and Steve Snyder and Huntington Beach’s Steve Lucas.
The Laguna Beach team includes Laguna Beach High School’s Dain Blanton, The Times’ Orange County player of the year; El Toro’s Mike Shannon and Ryan Van Rensselaer; J.J. Conkey and Eric Spraker of Laguna Beach; Greg Stone of Trabuco Hills, and Rich Talman and Shawn Baldwin of Tustin.
Playing for the Balboa Bay Club will be Carter Reese of Corona del Mar, Garrett Gee of University and Trent Stemper of Newport Harbor.
