Grumman Offers 6,000 Early Retirement: Defense contractor Grumman Corp., hurt by the recent cutback in defense spending, said it is offering early retirement to 6,000 employees under the company’s cost-reduction program. The voluntary retirement plan provides a supplement to accrued pension benefits, the Bethpage, N.Y., company said. Other military contractors have also announced cost reduction measures this year. The company employs 28,000 worldwide.
