Getting Down to Basics With Beatty
Re Jack Mathews’ June 10 cover story, “Beatty on the Basics”: It was a relief to read an article on Warren Beatty that does not revolve around women and sex.
Beatty is responsible for some of the most well-respected films in modern times, with Oscars and profits to show for it, and he aided Kennedy, McGovern and Hart in their quests for the presidency; yet so many interviewers mention this only in passing, writing things like “after he bored me for several hours about politics and the film industry, I finally tried to ask him about Madonna. . . .”
It is rare when a celebrity interview doesn’t look like it was conducted by a gum-chewing airhead trying to one-up Barbara Walters.
