P.M. BRIEFING : Hewlett-Packard Computer Exec to Head Apple’s U.S. Division

Apple Computer Inc. announced today that it has hired Robert Puette to lead the Cupertino, Calif.-based company’s Apple USA division.
As president of the division, Puette will be responsible for all sales, marketing, support and channel activities. He comes to Apple after a 24-year career with Hewlett-Packard Co., where he led the start-up, development and expansion of Hewlett-Packard’s worldwide personal computer business.
Puette, 48, joins Apple on July 1. He will report to Michael Spindler, Apple’s chief operating officer.
Most recently, Puette was general manager of Hewlett-Packard’s Personal Computer Group.
“All told, Bob has the right set of skills and experience to galvanize Apple’s U.S. business in the coming years,” Spindler said.
