COUNTYWIDE : Circus Program to Encourage Literacy
Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus and the Reading Is Fundamental organization will bring their joint campaign against illiteracy to Orange County next week with four shows designed to encourage young children to read.
The 25-minute live presentation, called “Ringling Readers,” will feature Ringling Bros. clown “Cowboy Mike” Keever, who will use an “imagination time machine” to help children discover, through books, how life was in the past and how it might be in the future.
The program, which Ringling Bros. officials said has been presented to more than 1 million children over the past three years, will be presented Monday at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. at the Anaheim Public Library, 500 W. Broadway.
There will be two presentations in Santa Ana on Tuesday, at 8:30 a.m. at Washington Elementary School, 910 Anahurst Place, and at 11:30 a.m. at Monroe Elementary School, 417 E. Central Ave.
The program, geared toward kindergartners through fourth-graders, is free.
