Boycott the Fair

I was reminded of an old Joni Mitchell song, which included the lyrics “They paved paradise and put up a parking lot,” when I read about the Del Mar Fair filling in land that was a nesting area for rare birds in order to add more parking spaces.

If you are disappointed by the priorities of the fair and the (state) Fish and Game Department, as I am, and, if you don’t want to support choices that may hasten the extinction of yet another endangered species, I have a suggestion: Don’t go to the Del Mar Fair.

Donate the money you would have spent to an environmental organization or take your kids somewhere else to have fun--and tell them why you won’t be going to the fair this year.
