Oak Grove
A van carrying 17 illegal migrants overturned on a sharp curve early Tuesday, and one of the migrants was killed, the California Highway Patrol reported. The driver fled the scene.
The incident occurred on California 79 about 5 1/2 miles north of Chihuahua Valley Road, near Oak Grove and the Riverside County line.
Daniel Juarez Sanchez, 37, was dead at the scene at 5:30 a.m., Deputy Coroner Cal Vine said. “Apparently, Mr. Sanchez was one of over 16 in a . . . van that was going northbound when the driver lost control and the vehicle overturned several times,” Vine said. “All the occupants appeared to be undocumented aliens. Some of them, including the driver, fled the scene.”
