President Bush’s Decision to Allow Logging in Owl Country
Let’s drive one fact into some thick skulls: When the natural wealth of this nation is destroyed in the pursuit of profit, it is gone from this nation and the entire face of the planet forever. How long is forever? Take the few years remaining before the spotted owl’s demise, add in the number of loggers who profit from clear-cutting old-growth forests, the number of generations it took civilized man to completely log over the Pacific Northwest, the paltry number of acres set aside for preservation, the number of federal officials immune to pressure from the timber lobby, and multiply the whole lot by the depth of the Republican Administration’s shortsighted hypocrisy.
Who will ultimately pay for the crimes business commits against nature?
