P.M. BRIEFING : Gumucio Quits Cray Research
From Times wire services
MINNEAPOLIS — Supercomputer-maker Cray Research Inc., which has seen several key leadership changes in recent years, said today that Marcelo Gumucio submitted his resignation as president, chief operating officer and a member of its board.
Cray Chief Executive Officer John Rollwagen cited differences of management style for the surprise departure of Gumucio, who became president in November, 1988.
Rollwagen said he and Gumucio had worked closely to implement a new long-range strategy for Cray, but as the strategy was introduced, “Marcelo and I were unable to agree on its execution. We attempted to blend our distinct management styles effectively, but we were not successful in that effort.”
