6 Longtime South Gate Teachers Given Honors at Retirement Party
SOUTH GATE — Six teachers with nearly 150 years of combined teaching experience retired recently from South Gate High School.
Physical education teacher Don Guynn had the most years in the profession. He retired after 38 years. During his tenure, Guynn also coached football and basketball.
Art teacher William Mendoza taught 32 1/2 years. Math teacher Doris Fetters taught 26 years, and Madelene Muensterman worked for 22 years. A business education teacher, Muensterman was the school’s testing coordinator when she retired.
Social studies teacher Ruth Russell taught for 17 years, while Reserve Officers’ Training Corps Sgt. Curtis McKee retired after 14 years.
All of them were honored at a recent retirement party given by their colleagues.
