FILLMORE : Mayor Says He Will Not Seek Reelection
The mayor of Fillmore announced Friday that he will not seek reelection in November.
John Murphy, who has led the council for more than three years, said he will give up the position to spend more time with his family and concentrate on other career goals.
Murphy, 40, said he will pursue a management position with Penny Saver, an advertising publication he has worked for since August, he said.
“Although it makes me sad to leave something I’ve enjoyed so much over the last 3 1/2 years, I find it necessary to do so,” Murphy said. “Serving on the council has been a very time-consuming endeavor.”
Murphy said he may pursue the post again in a few years. His accomplishments include the opening of Shiells Park and senior center and the establishment of year-round recreation program, he said.
