Versatile Hill Named Angel of the Week

Donnie Hill, who made his major league pitching debut and played three different infield positions this week, has been named Angel of the Week by The Times’ Orange County Edition.

Hill, who made the team after being invited to spring training as a nonroster player, has been indispensable this season. The Edison High School graduate pitched an inning last Sunday against the Milwaukee Brewers--the only Angel pitcher who didn’t surrender a hit in the 20-7 drubbing--and in other games played third base, second base and first base without commiting an error. For the week, besides his 0.00 earned-run average and one strikeout, Hill was two for seven with a run batted in and another scored. He has also played shortstop this season.

A check for $250 in Hill’s name will be given to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Orange County.
